Northlane Tap Into Trance Influence for New Album 'Anemoia'

Australian heavy music trailblazers NORTHLANE have announced their seventh studio album, "Anemoia", set for release on October 30. To kick things off, the band has unleashed a visceral new single titled "CUT_it".

"CUT_it" serves as a sonic portrait of total burnout, driven by a low-end groove that buckles under the weight of exhaustion. Marcus Bridge explores a menacing side of his vocal range before the track erupts into heavy territory. Bridge explains that the song captures the feeling of grinding through tasks while mentally and physically spent, opting for visceral imagery over analytical lyrics.

There's darkness here, but it's not nihilism — and there's hope, but it's not naivety.

Executive produced by Jordan Fish, the album's direction was sparked by a set from UK producer Evian Christ. This inspired guitarist Jon Deiley to fuse trance—with its emotional intensity and scale—into their signature electronic metal. The resulting record traverses euphoric trance, drum-and-bass, jungle, and pop elements.

Following their 2022 hit "Obsidian", "Anemoia" explores the concept of nostalgia for a time or place never known. This creates a dichotomy between the carefree energy found in tracks like "Evian" and the heavy, desperate moments where the present shatters that reverie. Despite the looming themes of decay, Bridge notes the record avoids nihilism, offering a more human perspective than previous offerings.

The tracklist features ten songs, including a guest appearance from DAYSEEKER on the title track. The band is currently touring festivals in Europe before heading to the Hellbound cruise.
